At the May 19 meeting of the Hicksville Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton recognized board members, students and tenured staff for their outstanding achievements, commitment and contributions to the Hicksville school community.

Dr. Fulton began the evening by honoring members of the Board of Education for their accomplishments through the New York State School Boards Association’s Board Excellence Recognition Program. Recognized were Board of Trustees President Annette Beiner, who earned a Level 3 Board Mastery Award; Board of Trustees Vice President Linda Imbriale, who earned a Level 4 Lifetime Achievement Award; and Board Trustee Danielle Fotopoulos, who earned a Level 1 Board Achievement Award.

Following Board recognition, Old Country Road School fifth grader Harper Mallow was acknowledged for her inspiring initiative, “We Can Boost,” which promotes positivity and encouragement throughout Long Island.

What began as a five-year-old’s passion for writing books to help children build confidence has evolved into a growing movement focused on kindness and empowerment. Through booths hosted at restaurants, libraries and community fairs, participants are invited to “write a boost,” “take a boost,” or both sharing uplifting messages with people of all ages.

Dr. Fulton also welcomed high school student leaders Lincoln Guida and Shreya Thomas, who shared highlights from their participation in the Long Island Regional Student Forum held earlier this year at St. Joseph’s University in Patchogue. The Hicksville students collaborated with peers from across Long Island to discuss important topics including mental health, academic pressure and school well-being. At the forum, the two engaged in breakout sessions exploring a variety of issues before selecting a final focus group aligned with their interests. Together, students developed presentations that were shared with fellow students and staff during the event.

Closing the evening, Dr. Fulton acknowledged four administrators, 20 teachers and 11 teaching assistants who were awarded tenure. He congratulated everyone individually for their dedication, professionalism and continued commitment to the students and families of the Hicksville school community.
