Eleven Hicksville School students have been named among 100 young artists selected for this year’s Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at the Heckscher Museum high school student art competition, including one that was named Best in Show.

Congratulations to the following students, whose exemplary artworks were chosen for the exhibit: Aqsa Ansari, William Fisher, Cailin Hoang, Viveka Jain, Katarina Kobetitsch, Stephanie Lopez, Taylor Murphy, Jessica Rotondi, Kelly Ryan, Sanamjeet Singh and Amshitha Sivarajah.

Additional kudos to Stephanie, whose work won Best in Show, and Aqsa, who received the Achievement in Oil Painting honor in the competition. Caillin was also the recipient of the Huntington Fine Arts Institute Award of Excellence for her artwork and Katarina won the Firefly Gallery Award for her entry.

“We are so thrilled to have students that are not only talented, but obviously have so much love for what they do,” said Hicksville School District’s Supervisor of Fine Arts Chad Wyman. “The young artists are rightfully recognized, but are just the captains of a huge team of artists throughout our schools. Congratulations to them and the teachers that have fostered their artistic souls every step of the way.”

This is the 25th year of Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at the Heckscher Museum exhibition and the 100th anniversary of the Heckscher Museum of Art. Although the in-person exhibit has been suspended, the museum is launching a virtual gallery of these works beginning April 17. For more information, go to  www.heckscher.org.
