Congratulations to the seven Hicksville High School student-musicians who were named to perform at various Long Island String Festival Association events this year.

In January, members of the Hicksville High School Chamber Ensemble performed in the LISFA Chamber Festival at Hofstra University. The audition process was very rigorous. Students had the privilege to be coached by Timothy Kantor, member of the Bryant Park Chamber Ensemble and adjunct professor of violin and chamber music at the University of Arizona. They were featured in a recital with other chamber groups and the Bryant Park Chamber Ensemble. Faaris Ali, Ethan Mascarenas, Saddaf Menhaji, Kip Rath and Eli Yoo were all selected to perform.

In November, members of the Hicksville High School String Orchestra were selected by a panel of judges into the LISFA Orchestra Festival from a pool of applicants across all of Nassau County. Students were selected in both the 9-10 and 11-12 division ensembles. They had the privilege to work with esteemed conductor-teachers Reynard Burns and Anna Edwards. They were featured in a  performance at Wisdom Lane Middle School in Levittown. Matthew LaBarca and Serena Lam were chosen to perform along with Ethan and Saddaf.

This March, Saddaf will perform with the Knights/Tilles Center String Orchestra Convocation performance. Applicants were required to receive a 97 on a level 6 NYSSMA solo and must be in grades 11 or 12. Saddaf and other students selected will perform with members of the orchestra in a “side-by-side” style concert as each student sits next to a regular adult member from The Knights chamber orchestra.

Additional congratulations to Hicksville High School orchestra teacher and Tri-M Honor Society adviser Jennifer Weiss on guiding these young string masters to success!
