On March 6, 2020, Debbie Ann Schneider, Field Educator, Educated Choices Program presented to Dr. Andrea Maxeiner’s Social Studies classes on Environment and Modern Agriculture. The presentation focused on the importance of taking care of the planet. Students viewed documentary excerpts and photographs to understand modern agriculture which included an introduction of how animals are raised in modern farms and the related impact on the environment. Students learned about the amount of natural resources needed to raise animals, including water, land, and crops. Students examined the connections between the agriculture industry and the rapid destruction of the rainforests, pollution and depletion of the oceans and climate change. The presentation concluded with recommendations for adopting environmentally-friendly food choices.
