Message From Our Principal

As we begin this new school year, I would like to extend a warm and sincere welcome to you and your family.  At its heart, education is about building a strong foundation, one rooted in essential knowledge, skills, and values that prepare our students for success both in school and in life.  This belief in the importance of essentials, hard work, respect, perseverance, and mastery of core subjects guides the work we do each day at Hicksville High School.

Our commitment to essential learning means that your child will be challenged with rigorous academics, supported by teachers who set high expectations that encourage students to grow into a responsible and thoughtful citizen.  We know that lasting learning happens when students are consistently engaged in reading, writing, problem solving, and critical thinking, while also practicing self discipline and respect for others.

To further support this focus, we are proud to be a distraction free school.  Students will not have access to cell phones during the instructional day, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:25 p.m.  This policy and  New York State law ensures that the classroom remains a place dedicated to learning, free from unnecessary interruptions, and helps students strengthen the essential habits of attention, self control, and meaningful engagement with their peers, learning content, and teachers.

I am proud of the resilience our students and families have shown in recent years, and I am equally proud of our dedicated staff who work to provide meaningful instruction, structure, and encouragement.  Together, we form a partnership, home and school, focused on preparing students for both the opportunities and responsibilities of the future.

This year, I encourage every student to approach school with curiosity, determination, and an “attitude of gratitude.”  Families, I ask you to remain active partners, communicate with teachers, support the habits of dedicated and disciplined study at home, and encourage your child to participate in the extracurricular activities that help shape a well rounded education.

As always, I am grateful for the trust you place in us.  My staff and I are excited to welcome our students into the building, to hear the energy of learning in our classrooms, and to watch our young people grow into their best selves through the steady pursuit of knowledge and character.

Very truly yours,

Mr. Raymond A. Williams
Principal
